Spanish Immersion & Social Sciences Field Exposure Study Abroad
Community development project in Peru.
"After researching many study abroad programs in Latin America, I found Ecela and, from the beginning, knew I had found the perfect match. The staff and administrators at are wonderful; they are so helpful, organized, and very friendly—they work hard to keep each student happy."
The professors are also gems: they are effective teachers, enthusiastic, make learning Spanish fun, care deeply about students, and are always available for extra help. In fact, since returning to the U.S., professors have continued to be available whenever I have any questions."

Our Spanish Immersion study abroad programs are designed to prepare today's college students to face the demographic realities of America, where professional services (counseling, social work, healthcare, legal, education, etc.) struggle to keep up with a growing population of Spanish-speakers.
We believe that:
That is why we have developed our courses to give you genuinely useful Spanish-speaking abilities (not just "good on paper") and to expose you to the Latin American culture.
Today's college students are not prepared for America's demographic reality. That's why our 3-country study abroad program accelerates your language skills and develops your Latino cultural empathy.
After joining us you can leapfrog past otherwise equal candidates on job and grad school applications. You will no longer fear rejection just because you can't check off "fluent in Spanish"

"I’m just blown away by how good all of the teachers are..."
I studied on my own a little bit, never in a school, but I took a short Berlitz language class in the US. ECELA and Berlitz are not even comparable.
"ECELA is far better. Berlitz is world-renowned, but there is no comparison at all. The teachers at ECELA are trained in linguistics and how to teach language. I’m just blown away by how good all of the teachers are."
I didn’t have any Spanish experience at all before I arrived and by the time I left, I could understand and speak a significant amount!
"I decided to go during my gap year between undergrad and medical school...I didn’t have any Spanish experience at all before I arrived and by the time I left, I could understand and speak a significant amount!
"Even beyond the classes, I learned so much the Ecela staff, locals, travelers, and the kids we volunteered with. I will remember them all for a long, long time."
My entire experience with ECELA was beyond amazing
"Erik, a great professor and friend, always made classes very engaging with jokes, city tours and discussions on real life situations. My entire experience with ECELA was beyond amazing and I highly recommend the program to anyone looking to really learn Spanish and experience life in South America.
Why apply early? (1) Each session has limited spots and (2) the best housing choices go to early applicants

"I truly admire every one of our students who travels all the way to South America for this program. It is so much easier to stay at home - with your comforts, your family, and your friends - than to travel to a new land, where you are surrounded by people you don't know, speaking a language you don't understand.
"Thank you for doing your part to confront America's language gap crisis.”
Cecilia Quezada, Director of Services
P.S.: We recommend applying as early as you can. Your individual "student priority number" for scheduling homestays, cultural activities, and volunteer placements is given out in order of application date.
