BirdWatchers (La terra degli uomini rossi) has the familiar basis story of a native community, in this case a Brazilian group called the Guarani-Kaiowa, working together to retrieve their homeland from a farmer that has seized it for profit. The film’s goal is to appeal to viewers to support the Guarani Survival Fund.
What makes BirdWatchers stand out however isn’t the concept of the film or the message, but the way the film was created. The entirety of BirdWatchers was shot in ten weeks, and the cast was made entirely of people who had no acting experience. To top things off, no script was used in the shooting.
For all the ways the film could have gone wrong, critics agree that it wound up going right. BirdWatchers has received almost nothing but positive reviews. Reviews have commented that while BirdWatchers may not have the highest production value or meticulous planning, the film is genuine and the choose to have members of the Guarani-Kaiowa instead of actors portray themselves paid off. The film unanimously won the 2010 One World Media Award for Best Drama.

El objetivo de la película es incentivar a la audiencia a apoyar al Guarani Survival Fund.
Lo que hace sobresaliente a BirdWatchers no es el concepto ni el mensaje de la película sino la forma en que fue creada. Toda la película fue filmada en diez semanas y el elenco estaba constituido mayoritariamente por personas que no tenían experiencia en actuación. Además de todo, no se utilizó ningún guión en la filmación.
A pesar de que el filme podría haber salido mal en muchos aspectos, los críticos están de acuerdo en que todo salió a pedir de boca. BirdWatchers ha recibido casi solo opiniones positivas. Las opiniones comentan que quizá BirdWatchers no es tan valiosa como producción, sin embargo, la película es genuina y la decisión de que hubiera personas Guarani-Kaiowa en vez de actores que los interpretaran les brindó buenos resultados. La película ganó unánimemente el One World Media Award al Mejor Drama en 2010.
