Return to Bolivia is a documentary written by Mariano Raffo and Marina Boolls in 2008, the film being directed by the former. Although the film is of Argentine origin, the story centers around a family from the neighboring country of Bolivia. Janth, Brian, Camila, and Jhoselyn live with a greengrocer in Liniers, a neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The documentary tells about the family’s return to their homeland with the camera crew following them for the journey, giving the entire film a style not too different from the classic road trip movie.
Return to Bolivia has received heavy praise for having great depth and universal themes despite the actual story being a simple, intimate tale. Critics have compared the true story to a fictional one due to the production value and composition. The film has received over 20 nominations for awards in various festivals since its release and has won five of those awards including the 2009 award for Best Documentary at Festival de Gualeguaychú, the 2008 award for Best Image at Festival de Tucuman Cine, and first prize at the 2009 Zona Centro of Festival ARAN. While all of the aforementioned awards are Argentine in nature, Return to Bolivia’s allocations eventualy have gone beyond its country of origin to festivals in countries such as Guatemala.

Aunque es un film de origen argentino, la historia gira alrededor de una familia del país vecino, Bolivia. Janth, Brian, Camila y Jhoselyn viven con un verdulero en Liniers, un vecindario de Buenos Aires, Argentina. El documental narra el regreso de la familia a su tierra natal mientras el equipo de cámaras la sigue en su viaje, lo que le da a todo el film un estilo no tan diferente de la típica película de un viaje por tierra.
Return to Bolivia ha recibido muy buenas críticas por sus temas universales y de gran profundidad, a pesar de que la historia es simple e intima. Los críticos han comparado la historia real con una de ficción debido al valor y a la composición de la producción.
