Y Tu Mamá También (And Your Mother Too) is a coming of age drama about two teenage boys and a woman in her 20s who take a road trip through Mexico. Initially set in the year 1999, although released in 2001, the movie details political and economic issues of the time.
The film is renowned for being shamelessly sexual in some places. The movie uses a voice-over during breaks in the dialog and soundtrack to provide viewers with additional information about characters, events, and political matters particularly when the story is in a poor area of the country.
The plot follows teenagers Tenoch and Julio who are bored without their girlfriends after the girls leave for a trip to Italy at the beginning of the movie. Trying to look grown up and experienced, they invite Luisa, the wife of Tenoch’s cousin, to a trip to a magical beach known as Boca del Cielo (Mouth of Heaven).
Although at first she turns down their invitation, after receiving a phone call from her husband who admits to cheating on her, she changes her mind and sets off on a road trip with the two boys.
Luisa has little idea that the boys have no idea where the beach is located. Driving through rural Mexico, they pass their time bragging about past relationships while Luisa speaks sadly of her husband and first love who died some years before.
Y tu mamá también es una obra de teatro acerca de dos adolescentes y una mujer de veintitantos años que hacen un viaje por carretera en México. La obra sucede en el año 1999, aunque fue lanzada en el 2001 y trata sobre asuntos políticos y económicos de la época.
La película se conoce por ser descaradamente sexual en algunas partes. Utiliza narraciones y banda sonora durante las pausas del diálogo, para ofrecer a los televidentes información adicional acerca de los personajes, eventos y asuntos políticos especialmente cuando la historia sucede en una zona pobre del país.
En la trama, los adolescentes Tenoch y Julio se aburren sin sus novias quienes al principio de la película se fueron de viaje a Italia. Intentando parecer grandes y experimentados, invitan a Luisa, la esposa del primo de Tenoch, a hacer un viaje a una playa mágica conocida como Boca del Cielo.
Aunque en un principio ella rechaza su invitación, después de recibir una llamada telefónica de su marido, quien admite que la está engañando, cambia de opinión y emprende un viaje por carretera con los dos chicos.
Luisa no sabe que los jóvenes no tienen ni idea de donde se encuentra la playa. Al conducir por el México rural, hablan sobre sus relaciones pasadas, mientras que Luisa habla con tristeza de su esposo y su primer amor, quien murió hace años.
