If you chose to explore the city on your own or with a fellow classmate you can use your knowledge of the language to ask for directions and hail a cab. A great starting point is the Plaza de Armas. The Plaza de Armas sits in the middle of the city and is surrounded by buildings that date back hundreds of years- including the Palacio Arzobispal, the Palacio de Gobierno, the Catedral de Lima, and the Museo Metropolitano de Teatro.
Venture a bit further and head down to Larcomar along the Pacific Ocean shores. Larcomar is a charming area of town boasting wonderful restaurants, a beautiful park, the beach, and of course shopping. While in Larcomar with your friends you can do some shopping, have dinner, visit the theater and catch a movie.
But if you’d prefer you can arrange a guided tour of the city which will stop at all the top tourist sites in Lima. With the increase of tourism to Lima tour companies are plentiful and numerous. You can schedule to see the city via double-decker bus, by bike, or by foot. Regardless of your method of transportation, you can put your Spanish lessons in Peru to the test with your guide.
Wherever you go you will see how immigrant cultures have fused. For example, when you have lunch or dinner in a local restaurant you will notice the dishes are a combination of Spanish and sometimes Asian tastes. Or you will be able to try a traditional dish that was a staple in the Amerindian culture, which is given a twist with Spanish seasonings. The food, along with music, dance and the visual arts, is a unique combination of the history of the land and the people who inhabit it.
The city of Lima is growing in popularity and for good reason. The beauty of this city is attracting tourists by record numbers. The people and vitality of the culture are becoming known around the world, and with the Elecla school you can experience it for yourself.
