If you get a chance to visit Chile, don’t miss out on a trip to the Atacama desert, one of the driest–and darkest–places on earth.
If you live in a city, or even a suburb, chances are you’ve never seen the night sky in all its star-filled glory. Light from homes, business, and street lamps fills the city sky with “light pollution” which affects star visibility for miles around. Many remote places such as national parks have capitalized on their dark skies by hosting stargazing events. These events are not just fun, but also serve to promote awareness of “light pollution” and the need to protect our dark places.
This October, Chile will be hosting Noche Zero, the first ever world summit on dark skies and city planning. The event will take place in San Pedro de Atacama, near some of the finest observatories in the world. Read more about the event here: Noche Zero: Embracing Darkness
