Torres del Paine National Park is one of Chile’s most popular hiking destinations. The main attraction is the “Torres”, or rock towers that thrust up out of the Patagonian steppe. Other popular sites in the park include the Southern Patagonian Ice Field, the Salto Grande Waterfall, and numerous clear blue alpine lakes.
Whether you choose to take a day hike to the “Torres”, hike the popular 5-day “W” route, or trek a 9-day loop, you will be treated to spectacular views. Patagonian weather can be extreme, so most people prefer to visit during the summer months of December, January, and February. The weather is generally good during this time, and the days are long due to Patagonia’s extreme southern location.
Although Patagonia is quite far from Santiago and Buenos Aires, it is definitely worth the trip if you have time.
