Are you planning to learn Spanish in Chile between June and October? If so, one of the most exciting things you can do during your stay in the country is ski or snowboard. Although you will be spending many hours studying at your Spanish school in Chile, it is also important to get some recreational activity. Chile has some of the most amazing skiing and snowboarding locations in the world. You can take advantage of this fact, experience the Andes Mountains, and enjoy winter sports at the following Chilean resorts.
Option #1- La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado
With 100 kilometers of trails, the La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado resorts offer the largest ski area in all of South America. This region is very close to Santiago and offers a panoramic view of the city. Valle Nevado is particularly notable because it hosts the Snowboarding FIS World Cup. El Colorado offers an artificial snow machine that guarantees skiers optimal conditions, plus terrain that is suitable for families and beginners. La Parva has 14 ski lifts and 30 trails that can accommodate all levels of skiing ability. This area also has a chute called La Chiminea and a steep wall called La Cara.
Option #2- Portillo
Portillo is close to the base of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the entire southern hemisphere. The resort has more than 10 lifts and 20 trails, and offers heliskiing trips to areas not serviced by lifts. If you are learning to ski or want a refresher course, you will be pleased to find that Olympic champions teach in Portillo’s school. When you’re not on the slopes, hang out in the hotel or check out amazing views from the alpine lake, Laguna del Inca.
