I know that for me, I tend to use the word este or esta to specify about which cosa I’m talking. However, after doing a little (very little, in fact) research into the matter, I found out I have been using that one word all wrong. Which word? Esta word…..
Este, this, shows that “it” is near the speaker
Ese, that, shows that “it” is near the person spoken to
Aquel, that, shows that “it” is removed from both the speaker and the person spoken to
Here’s a little chart with masculine and feminine use of these words:
ESTE | masculine | feminine |
singular | este | esta |
plural | estos | estas |
ESE | masculine | feminine |
singular | ese | esa |
plural | esos | esas |
AQUEL | masculine | feminine |
singular | aquel | aquella |
plural | aquellos | aquellas |
Hope this (ese?) serves you well!
