No, Nada, Negatives!

The Use of “No” in Negative Phrases & Sentences

When negative words follow the verb, no precedes it:

  • No hice nada hoy. I didn’t do anything today.
  • Catalina no hizo nada tampoco. Catalina didn’t do anything either.
  • No vamos nunca a esquiar. We never go skiing.

However, if a negative word precedes the verb, then no is not used:

  • Nunca voy al cine. I never go to the movies.
  • Yo tampoco voy mucho. I don’t go much either.
