If you want to learn Spanish and immerse yourself in the culture, ECELA Santiago is a good school for it. Originally, my plan was to take Spanish classes for two weeks but I enjoyed the grammar and conversation classes so much, I decided to stay for another week. I learned so much in a short period of time but I wish I could have stayed much longer. Initially I felt uncomfortable in the class because the teachers only spoke Spanish (total Spanish immersion). I felt intimidated because I didn’t have a lot of experience in speaking Spanish. But after a couple of days, I felt more at ease and more comfortable speaking Spanish with the teachers and the class. There were students from different parts of the country with diverse Spanish experience and the teachers tailored their teaching based on the students’ knowledge in Spanish. The teachers were great and they made learning Spanish fun. Also, what made my time in Santiago memorable and absolutely fun were the after school and weekend activities: museums, salsa lessons, cooking classes, walks around the city and parks, and outdoors trips. These activities allowed me to explore the beautiful city of Santiago, speak Spanish and really got to know other students.
