As many of ECELA’s students are wise, innovative people, they look to receive academic credit for their hard work and learning in South America. We wholeheartedly support this, and to make it easier, we have already received an “accreditation” of sorts from some colleges and offer our academic credit transfer services for a small fee.

How many credits will I receive for my Spanish program?
Courses at ECELA comply with the general rule of 15 contact hours (50-minute hours) of class time per credit hour. Since our group classes are 20 hours per week, you will earn roughly one credit hour per week.
What if my college isn’t on that list up there?
You should speak with a college adviser about the possibility of receiving credit for your studies. Many times colleges follow the steps below:
- Visit your college’s Spanish department for study abroad credit requirements. (Usually a few forms per application.)
- We will mail you any needed documents to pre-approve your studies. (Many times your school will need a course syllabus, explanation of our Spanish class levels, curriculum map, school site supervisor signature, etc…)
- Study Spanish abroad at our school(s).
- Afterward, we will mail your school a copy of your transcript endorsed either by ECELA and Universidad Bolivariana or ECELA and Brookhaven College. These are what will be credited to you as academic credit.
How will my grades from tests at ECELA appear?
Your tests will be graded on a scale of 0.0-100.0. We will also supply an explanation of corresponding North American grades.
How much extra does this cost?
Not much, if anything at all! Once you complete the standard application process, we will take into consideration your university’s requirements and adjust our fee accordingly.
Does this affect my class prices?
No! Not at all. You will receive our standard course prices, same as any other non-credit-receiving student.
